When the winter hits, it tends to limit a lot of some of our favorite activities. And unless you are able to travel someplace warmer, it’s not likely you’ll get to participate in them until the weather calms down again in March, April, or even May in some places. But that’s okay. As you’re reading over this list of activities that are difficult in the winter, you can make a plan. Start planning now for trips you want to take this summer or goals of places you want to go and things you want to do. Remember the things that you are missing now, and take that into the spring with you and do them!

Golfing is traditionally a summer sport, and it’s not hard to imagine why. It wouldn’t be very fun, or even possible, in the ice and snow. If you are an avid golfer in the warmer months, you are probably missing this. While you’re waiting for your time to golf again, keep on on turf trends with this turf magazine.

Maybe you didn’t get to go as often as you would have like to last summer because of limited funds or not enough time – well plan for it now. Save some money, schedule some time to do the thing you love most, and by the time spring and summer roll around you’ll have the time of your life.

Swimming in an outdoor pool or cool lake in the summer is something you don’t get much of in the winter unless you live where it’s warm year round (or you can travel someplace warm). If you miss swimming that much, see if there’s a rec center near you where you can relish in the joy that the water brings you. And take those memories that you have of swimming outdoors into this coming year and do as much of it as you can when the weather warms up again. Plan some trips to a lake, or save up for an awesome outdoor swimming pool this year.

Fishing is definitely more fun, and relaxing, in the summer when you aren’t freezing trying to do it. However, if you miss it that much, there are plenty of places to go ice fishing in the northern states. But now is the time, with the new year upon us, to plan for the best fishing excursion of your life this coming summer. Pick a place that you’ve always wanted to go, and plan for it!

Riding ATVs
Sure, there are trails that you can take an ATV on in the snow, but you might be missing your bike as the ice gets thick and it just sits in the garage all winter. While you’re waiting for the weather to warm up so you can get back on the trails, read up on new gear, reviews, and news in the ATV world at Dirt Toys Magazine, they specialize in Polaris RZR and Can AM Mavericks. See what you can get to improve your rides for an even better summer.

If you’re a country person, driving diesel trucks with a great powerstroke engine through the mud was probably something you did often in the summer. And with the ice and snow, there isn’t a lot of mud to be found. But take the time now to research and find the perfect places to take your diesel to go mudding and camping with a group of buddies.
