We all want to be healthy, so we get familiar with the most up to date ways that we can do that. But not all health trends are good for you, or all of you. A team of dentists in Twin Falls, Idaho wants you to know of these three health trends that can actually damage your teeth.
1. Juice Cleanses
A lot of people think juice cleanses are a great way to detox and will participate in one for anywhere from a few days up to a couple weeks. If you’re looking for a new way to lose weight, the pros are far outweighed by the cons on this one, so you might want to find something else.
Beyond the overall health of your mind and body – slowed metabolism, potential depression, stunted nail and hair growth – juice cleanses can be harmful to your teeth too! Acidity from the juices, with nothing else to balance that out, damages tooth enamel, which leads to teeth sensitivity and even decay.
2. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a more recent health trend that is said to have many health benefits, including weight loss, improved symptoms of diabetes, lower blood pressure, and improved digestion. But this trend can cause severe damage to your teeth. Like the juices, apple cider vinegar is highly acidic and will cause damage to tooth enamel, especially when ingested without diluting it first. If you want the health benefits of apple cider vinegar, the least harmful way to take it would be to get it in pill form.
3. Activated Charcoal
Charcoal has become all the rage when it comes to teeth whitening, face cleansing and more. But dentists are warning us about the dangers of using activated charcoal on our teeth. It can lead to enamel deterioration and tooth erosion, leading to teeth sensitivity and cavities. The best way to whiten your teeth yourself is to ask your dentist for recommendations of at-home whitening kits.
