One of the most versatile plant and drought tolerant in Texas is the crape myrtle tree. Crape myrtle (Lagerstroemia species) is a handsome, summer flowering, deciduous tree-shrub-groundcover. It has been called the lilac of the south.  I saw a few of my neighbors planted this tree in their front yard.
